Being Twenty Something in Lebanon

birthday my birthday happy b day to me the best tumblr free new its my birthday bitches facebook timeline cover photo banner image picture for fb profile (2)

Following the birthday frenzies and birthday weekend and sh**, maybe it’s the older and wiser thing, maybe somethings I just can’t stand anymore, I must be out of my mind.

First, some advice about celebrating your birthday in Lebanon (after a long failed list of birthday celebrations throughout the years):

1. If you insist on celebrating in a crowded place, i.e a pub, nightclub or a really loud and crowded party, then carefully pick the guest list. Do not invite more than a few people, four or five tops. And make sure to include the people whose company you enjoy the most at least.

2. If you’re having a casual dinner at home, then invite all the people you can. Okay it will be tiring and costly; to you and/or your mom, but that way you’ll guaranty a good time for everyone, assuming your friends are entertaining of course.

3. You could always celebrate with an activity that’s a bit adventurous. When I turned 18 for instance, I went on a Safari day trip ( I was still living back in the UAE ) with my three besties. That was by far, the most unforgettable and amazing birthday celebration yet.

So, I don’t know if I’m making any sense, but it seems that blogging and writing about my daily problems in a satirical way helps me relax! And, since yesterday was my birthday celebration and tomorrow is my birthday, (I’m turning 24…) there are some thoughts and incidents that stuck and I found kind of amusing.
One should mention first that all present people were completely different; different genres of people. And since I believe there’s a proverb that states “Tell me who your friends are, and I’ll tell you who you are”, I kept wondering, am I all these things? Woah!

The Texting Kind
The ones who are constantly texting, no matter the place, time and occasion. If you’re at a party, they’re the ones taking snaps and sending to people. They’re usually narrating to their friends what’s happening in the place they’re at and/or chatting with their crush.

The Posers
They’re the ones who keep taking picture, especially selfies. They first instagram the place, the decor. Then they take pictures of themselves drinking, posing in “cool” ways, singing and even dancing.

The Drunkards
They’re usually the ones who get so wasted, they start speaking different languages! They’re also the ones who’d try weird drinks with you. They usually start off low-key, with a glass of Whiskey or even a beer, and end up doing shots and eventually towards the end of the night, they drink anything within their reach.

The Attention Seekers
This category usually involve girls. In some case it could apply to guys. These people are the ones who’d do crazy things, they’re usually the ones dancing on tables (in really drunken situations) or the ones dancing like it’s “the last night of their lives”. This category could also include but is not limited to all of the above!

The Couples
This one’s about the couple-friends, they’re usually the most discrete, dirty dancing with each other or slow dancing. They only speak to each other and have some external conversations in case they need someone to take their picture.

The Cool Kids
They’re the ones doing cheesy and fun dance moves. Usually this category groups a few girls and guys. They’re not so loud but they’re obvious and they’re usually the ones having the most fun.

The Singles
And by singles I mostly mean guys. These are the ones who can’t help but check out every single girl that enters the club. They’d try to hook up with your good-looking friends and their whole evening is a female-hunt.

Well I could go on and on, there are a few more categories I could think of, but I haven’t encountered them in a while. You know categories that stand when you’re still in your teens: “The Sluts”, “The Druggies”, “The Bimbos” etc…
All in all, I had an OKAY time. Not that good but not so bad. I am definitely reconsidering my locus and entourage options, but still it makes me happy that so many people showed up. For a shy and unselfish person like myself (honestly) it is kind of nice to get this one day/night where it is all about you once every year!
